Miriam Jordan M.S., Ed PCET
Executive Director

Miriam Jordan has 30 years of teaching experience. She is a certified educational therapist, Dyslexia Specialist and NILD instructor. Miriam received her Bachelor’s degree from Nova Southeastern University and her Master’s degree from the University of Miami in early childhood special education. In 2006, she founded the organization 1 Child At A Time, Inc. Faith, trust, integrity, and building relationships comprise the very essence of her educational approach, which is defined by a teachable spirit.

Janice Brito
POP Specialist

Janice Brito has 21 years of teaching experience and has an AA in Fashion Merchandising. She is our POP specialist and has her Search and Teach certification. Janice loves to spend time with family, read, travel especially to Minneapolis where her grandsons live, and she enjoys shopping. Janice joined our team in 2015 because of her love, passion for teaching and knowing that God comes first in working with our families.

Ivette Rego
NILD Reading Specialist

Ivette Rego is no stranger to 1 Child At A Time. She began with our organization in 2012 and took some time off to have a family. Ivette has over 16 years of teaching experience and has a BA in English Minor in Secondary Education with a NILD Reading Rx and Grant Writing Certificate. She enjoys spending time with family, listening to live music, traveling, watering her plants and writing creatively. Ivette chose to serve on our team because of our model provides the tools needed to assist the whole child.

Nancy Perez
NILD Reading Specialist

Nancy Perez has been an educator for over 20+ years. With a heart to serve her community, she joined our team in 2018 giving her all to the children and families she serves. Her extensive experience as a nurse and educator has proven to be a dynamic connection to our team. We are so thankful to have Nancy as part of One Child At A Time.

Marlene Hartman
Reading Educator

Marlene Hartman has worked in the educational field since 1992 from public to private schools.  She has her Search and Teach certification and serves as our Reading Specialist. Marlene enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She chose to serve with 1 Child At A Time because of the sincerity, dedication and commitment to serve children.

Lorraine Patiño
Search and Teach Educator

Lorraine Patino has two years of teaching experience.  She has her Search and Teach Certificate and is a substitute teacher for Miami Dade Public Schools. This December she will complete her AA Degree in Education. She enjoys watching movies and chose to be part of our team because she saw results with her own daughter through educational therapy. She was moved by the love, care and approach given to each child and the communication with the parents.

Andrea Mejia
Office Assistant

Andrea Mejia has 3 years of office experience and a willingness to learn and serve. She has an AA degree in Psychology and is currently attending Florida International University. On her spare time, Andrea enjoys cooking, gardening, reading, music and discovering God's gifts of beauty through nature. She joined our team in 2018 and is blessed to experience new things and work with others. Andrea loves to see the joy of children's academic progress and serve our families.

Yomalis Alvarez
Vice President Contract Administration

Since 2006, Yomalis Alvarez has been a devoted board member to 1 Child At A Time. For over twenty years, she has worked within the real estate industry gaining valuable insight into multiple aspects of the business. Although she is a recognized real estate specialist, she identifies most as a parent of a child with disabilities because her life was forever changed after her son was diagnosed with Autism. As a parent, she knows the difficulties people with disabilities face in accessing special education, insurance, and government services. Yomalis is passionate about servicing the educational community through 1 Child At A Time as she is able to use her personal knowledge and strengths to assist in establishing change with special needs children.

Griselda Bain
School Counselor

Griselda Bain joined our board in 2015. She is an experienced, creative, and visionary school counselor with a love for seeing students succeed. She is passionate about creating academic environments that allow students to thrive and about ensuring equity and access for all stakeholders. At Lady of Lords Academy, she provides personal counseling, college admission and career readiness services to students in a high school setting. Her bicultural heritage (Cuban American) background affords her a keen understanding and responsiveness that enriches her work and life

Leonel Jordan
Group Coach Carnival Cruise line

Since 2006, Leo Jordan has been a long-standing board member dedicated to our cause. He is energetic, highly motivated and dedicated to building personal relationships at work and in his personal life. As a Group Coach at Carnival Cruise Lines, his role consists of coaching his team agents through difficult tasks, providing positive feedback, and organizing team building activities that empower others professionally.
